Getting here

How to get to free cerveza hostel in
lake atitlán, Guatemala.

The only way to Free Cerveza is by boat. And that’s part of the fun.

We’re tucked away on the shores of Lake Atitlán in Santa Cruz la Laguna. There’s no road access to our hostel, so getting here involves two steps: a shuttle to Panajachel, and then a boat to our dock. We’ll walk you through it step by step.

Step 1: get to Panajachel

Panajachel (aka Pana) is the main gateway to Lake Atitlán and where most boats to Santa Cruz take off.

To get there, we recommend booking a shuttle with Roadrunner. They’re our official transport partner and the company we trust to get our guests here smoothly. You can expect simple online booking, responsive support, and reliable service from pickup to drop-off.

Roadrunner can drop you off near the dock in Panajachel. Then it’s just a quick boat ride across the lake to Free Cerveza.

Step 2: take a boat to Santa Cruz

Once in Panajachel, head to the Muelle Tzanjuyú (public dock) and grab a lancha (public boat) to Santa Cruz la Laguna. You have two drop-off options:

Ask for the “Free Cerveza” dock

Most boat drivers will drop you right at our private dock for no extra charge. Just say: “Voy a Free Cerveza, por favor.”

Get dropped at the Santa Cruz main dock

This is the most common stop. From there, it’s just a 5-minute walk – turn left off the dock and follow the path. If you’re unsure, ask someone nearby or message us and we’ll guide you.

Boat Info:

Runs every 20–30 minutes from 7AM to 7PM

Ride takes 15mins from Pana to Santa Cruz.

No need to book. Just show up and get on.

Arriving late?

Public boats usually run until 7PM, but it’s best to get to Panajachel by 6PM just to be safe.

If you’re arriving close to sunset or think you might miss the last boat, send us a message on WhatsApp. We can help coordinate a private lancha to Santa Cruz for an additional cost.

Important!

Driving? Don’t.

We’ll say it again because it’s important:
There is no road to Free Cerveza. Not a little one. Not a secret back route. Nada.

Do not try to drive to Santa Cruz. Google Maps and Waze will lie to you, and your car will end up stuck on a steep dirt trail. It’s a bad time. Trust us.

If you have a car:

  • Drive to Panajachel
  • Park near the Tzanjuyú Dock (there’s safe overnight parking available right near the dock)
  • Then follow the boat instructions above
